What is a Storyboard in Web Design?

storyboard web design

There are a lot of technicalities when it comes to web designs. From codes to graphics, everything needs to be planned concisely so the website would appear appealing and convenient for audiences on digital platforms. One of the most essential components in web design is the storyboard. It brings about the plans of what the web page should look like, appearing very engaging to rise above other competitors and to boost their client engagement and visits more.

Just like a house, web designs have blueprints. The storyboard is the process of making the skeleton of the web design before graphics and colours are added to make the initial design. Basically, a storyboard is just composed of text and/or a diagram with details on each part that serve as a guide for the graphic and web designer.

Hence, it helps designers determine the essential parts of the webpage and the hierarchy of importance from one element to another. Even though storyboards might appear barren and bland at the start, it depicts the functionality of the web design with formats and placements that are beneficial for their target audience.

Format

A storyboard format should include words and rectangular shapes that serve as the tabs on your homepage. The format should be the skeleton of the webpage, putting all the important parts of your website on the page and their placements as well. The format also answers how big certain information or graphics should be, entailing bigger ones as the most important and the small ones as the subparts only. This will help the designers understand the same point to build coordination and give the web design a perfect touch.

Web design does not only include the look of the homepage but also the navigation bars and the inside of the tabs an audience clicks. The diagram must have information on how many sub-parts are included in one tab. Still, it is essential to create the underlying information a certain tab has as this will also entail the hierarchy of information you should have for each main tab.

Information

As the storyboard reveals information, web designers are deemed to create elements and details that will not appear overwhelming for their audience. This means that the imagery and the parts of the design are controlled and limited yet still provide the concrete and concise information a client wants to see. However, storyboards do not entirely have the information piece by piece, but rather just general information of what each segment of the website must-have.

Cool animations might entice the clients, however, when it does not have a great storyboard, everything will just go to waste. Thus, storyboards create a foundation for each web design, providing a sense of creativity and functionality for the users to enjoy. When a good storyboard is made, it would not be impossible for a website to be appreciated and visited frequently by users; hence creating a site where everyone will find it convenient and visually artistic.
